Is the South Carolina Commission on Prosecution Coordination still conducting trainings during the COVID-19 pandemic?
ANSWER: Yes. In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Commission has developed and implemented a plan for converting live trainings to an online virtual format not previously offered. This has allowed prosecutors, diversion coordinators and victim advocates to receive critical information relating to COVID-19 and the performance of their responsibilities. Additional virtual trainings to obtain required continuing education credits have been scheduled and continue to be planned. Is the South Carolina Solicitors’ Association Solicitors’ Conference still occurring in September 2020?
ANSWER: The Annual Solicitors’ Conference for 2020 will be structured differently this year to ensure safety and compliance with the recommendations of the Governor, SCDHEC and the CDC. Presently, the conference is still planned as a live event that will take place in Myrtle Beach, SC, but on a much smaller scale than in previous years. Circumstances relating to the COVID-19 pandemic will continue to be monitored frequently to evaluate whether a live conference is able to take place. Are diversion programs currently accepting applicants during the COVID-19 pandemic?
ANSWER: Each Circuit is handling the acceptance of diversion program applications differently based on available resources.
