Description: The purpose of this position is to prepare and prosecute criminal cases in any court in which the 10th Circuit Solicitor’s Office represents the State of South Carolina.

Essential Job Duties:

  1. Prepare criminal cases for trial, hearings, and pleas.
  2. Represent the State in criminal cases in Court; i.e. preliminary hearings, motion hearings, pleas, and trials.
  3. Do legal research through review of current statutes and case law.
  4. Coordinate with other agencies (DSS, DMH, DPPP, Probate Court, etc.) to assure appropriate dispositions and/or placement of offenders.
  5. Review case files and discovery.
  6. Contact witnesses/victims.
  7. Draft legal documents.
  8. Conduct plea negotiations.
  9. Advise/consult law enforcement on cases.

Essential Job Duties are intended to be examples of duties and are not intended to be all inclusive. There will be other duties as assigned.

Additional duties include: Meet with victims on criminal cases, consult with law enforcement regarding legal issues, attend training seminars, and help conduct legal education seminars. This position must be able to be available 24/7 to respond to law enforcement with legal questions or issues.

POSITION 1 – Job Title: Drug Court Coordinator

Description: Edgefield County is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Drug Court Coordinator with the Eleventh Judicial Circuit Solicitor’s Office. This position will serve all (4) counties of the circuit and is located in the Lexington office. Duties include assisting the Solicitor/Program Director with the implementation and coordination of the day-to-day operation of the Drug Court program. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to; the administrative documentation of program policy and procedure, organizing referral process and appointments for referents, case file preparation, coordination of services with ancillary agencies for participants, address concerns related to treatment provisions, serves as a liaison to government and community agencies, prepares Status Hearing reports, attends weekly staffing and Status Hearings, documents Status Hearing outcomes. Works directly with chemically dependent criminal offenders. Manages participants from referral to completion of the program. All other duties as assigned.

Job Qualifications: Qualified candidates should sustain good working relationships with prosecutors, defense attorneys, probation agents, judges, law enforcement, treatment providers and the community. Job will require the coordinator to work some evenings. Must possess a valid South Carolina driver’s license. Job requires a Bachelor’s Degree with 3 to 5 years of experience within the criminal justice system, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience. The starting salary for this position will be dependent upon the qualifications and experienceof the successful applicant. This position will remain open until filled by a qualified candidate. Edgefield County conducts pre-employment drug testing as well as DMV and criminal background checks.

POSITION 2- Job Title: Attorney I DUI

Description: Under limited supervision, performs case preparation and prosecuting duties for the Solicitor’s Office to include conducting trials in both Magistrate and General Sessions Court throughout the Eleventh Judicial Circuit, which includes Edgefield, Lexington, McCormick and Saluda counties. Manages an assigned caseload and resolves each case as deemed appropriate. Performs other similar duties as required.

Job Qualifications: Requires a Juris Doctorate degree from an accredited law school. Experience in criminal law, particularly prior experience in prosecuting criminal cases, to include trial experience is preferred but not required. Must possess and maintain membership in the South Carolina Bar Association. Must have completed all Rule 403 requirements. Must possess a valid South Carolina driver’s license.
