The SCCPC performs many vital duties to support the criminal justice system and South Carolina citizens. These duties include:
- Collect and report of budgetary and criminal justice data from the Circuit Solicitors’ offices;
- Provide the Circuit Solicitors’ offices with ongoing and timely legal support and updates, administrative and technical support;
- Frequent education and trainings to Solicitors, law enforcement, investigators, magistrate judges, victim-witness assistance advocates, and diversion program staff on topics relevant to criminal justice and the investigation and prosecution of crimes in South Carolina;
- Support and coordination of South Carolina’s diversion/intervention programs;
- Build public awareness of South Carolina’s diversion/intervention programs;
- Monitor, review, and analyze legislation, changes to state court rules, and state and federal court decisions;
- As appropriate, act as amicus curiae in matters before the South Carolina appellate courts;
- Through the Commission’s Traffic Safety Resource Prosecutor Program, provide DUI training support for sheriffs and municipal police agencies statewide;
- Distribute loan forgiveness awards through the John R. Justice Student Loan Forgiveness Program; and
- Serve on criminal justice related committees.
